Wingfoil
What is Wingfoil?
Wingfoiling is the latest revolution in water sports. It combines elements of surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing, but with a unique sense of freedom and smoothness.
Unlike other wind sports, Wingfoiling uses a simplified and highly efficient set of gear:
Wing: A lightweight, inflatable wing controlled directly by your hands (no bars or long lines required).
Board: Specifically designed to provide stability and facilitate takeoff.
Hydrofoil: The "magic" beneath the water. A submerged wing that lifts the board, allowing you to fly above the surface.
Why Choose Wingfoiling?
The sport's biggest advantage is low resistance. Thanks to the hydrofoil, you glide with minimal friction, which brings clear benefits:
Silent and Smooth Flight: Since the board doesn't hit the chop, it feels like you are floating on a magic carpet.
Less Physically Demanding: Compared to kitesurfing or windsurfing, wingfoiling is less aggressive on the body, allowing for longer sessions with less fatigue.
Total Versatility: It’s a sport that expands your possibilities. You can practice in flat water, surf waves using the ocean's swell, or simply sail on light-wind days when other wind sports wouldn't be able to operate.
Is Wingfoiling Safe?
Yes! Wingfoiling is considered one of the safest and most accessible wind sports for both adults and children.
Unlike modalities like kitesurfing, where there is much greater traction, wingfoiling uses a moderate-power wing. The goal is not a "sharp pull," but rather generating the exact lift for the hydrofoil to begin flying.
Why you can feel at ease:
Controlled Speed: Initial navigation happens at approximately 15 km/h — slower than a recreational bike ride.
No "Launch" Effect: The wing doesn't have the power to "throw" the rider. If you let go of your hands, the wing simply loses power and floats beside you.
Double Safety (Leashes): You will always be connected: one leash attaches you to the wing and another to the board. Since both are highly buoyant, they serve as extra flotation support at any time.
Full Gear: At Foil Journey, we prioritize your safety. All our students use high-performance helmets and impact vests.
5 Reasons to Learn Wingfoiling Now
If you are looking for a new connection with the water, Wingfoiling is the ideal choice. Here is why:
The Gateway to the Foil World: It’s the fastest and safest way to learn how to master a hydrofoil board, serving as a foundation for Surf Foil or SUP Foil.
Maximum Safety: Compared to other ocean sports, the risk of accidents is drastically lower due to full control over the wing's power.
Versatile Conditions: We don't depend on the "perfect" day. Wingfoiling is pure fun in both light and strong winds, and works well in flat water or large swells.
Reduced Physical Effort: Once the hydrofoil lifts the board, water drag disappears. You don't feel the impact of the chop and use much less strength to keep sailing.
Accelerated Learning Curve: With the right methodology, "flight" happens much sooner than you think, providing a unique sense of freedom from the very first lessons.
-
No! Wingfoiling is an independent sport. While an understanding of wind helps, our methodology is designed for those who have never practiced water sports before.
-
Wingfoiling is extremely safe for children (usually starting at ages 8-10, depending on height) and adults of all ages. If you can ride a bike, you can learn to Wingfoil.
-
Not at all. Foil Journey provides all the latest generation equipment: Wing, board, and hydrofoil, as well as an impact vest and helmet. You just need to bring sunscreen and a good attitude!
-
That’s the best part: no! Unlike other sports, the hydrofoil eliminates water friction. Once you take off, the effort is minimal. It is more about balance and technique than brute strength.
-
The learning curve is fast. On average, after 3 to 5 lessons, most students experience their first controlled flights over the hydrofoil.
-
Safety first! You will be connected to the wing by a wrist leash. If you let go, the wing loses all power instantly and floats beside you, posing no danger.
